According to preliminary data of National Bureau of Statistics of China:

Macro Indicators

l      GDP in 2007 totaled 246,619 hundred million RMB, up 11.4% y-o-y. The growth in each season to be 11.1%11.9%11.5% and 11.2% respectively.  GDP per capita exceeds 6,000 USD in capital Beijing, 5,000 USD in Tianjing . (Ref. GDP growth 10.0% in 2003, 10.1% in 2004, 10.4% in 2005 )

l      The average registered urban unemployment rate at the year end being 4.0%, down 0.1 percentage point y-o-y. The employed population totaled 769.9 mn at the end of the year, 5.9 mm more than the same period of the previous year.

l      The foreign exchange reserve of totaled 1.5282 trillion at the year end, 461.9 bn more than the previous one. The exchange rate of RMB stood at 7.3046 against USD at the year end, gaining 6.9% than the end of previous year.

l      National average consumer price increases by 4.8%. Housing price in 70 big and medium cities increased 7.6% y-o-y.  The price of food products increased by 12.3%, and of industrial products increased by 3.1%.

Agriculture

l      All cereal planted area was 105.53 million ha., 0.7 million ha. more than the previous year.

l      The output of cereal totaled 501.5 mn tons, up 0.7% y-o-y; the output of cotton 7.6 mn tons, up 1.3% y-o-y.

Industry

l      Gross Value-added of industry increased by 13.5% y-o-y to 10.7367 trillion RMB in the year; of which, heavy industry increases by 19.6%, light industry increases by 16.3%.

l      The output of steels was 1,058.6 million tons.

l      The output of automobile totaled 8.887 million, up 22.1% y-o-y, of which the output of cars is 4.798 million, up 24%.

l      Total 548.579 million of mobile phones were produced in the year.

l      Total 120.734 million of micro computers were produced in the year.

l      Total 3,277.72 bn kwh of electricity were produced in the year, of which 2,721.83 bn kwh by thermal, and 482.88 bn kwh by hydro.

 

Investment in Fixed Assets

l      Total domestic investment in the fixed assets stood at 13.7239 trillion RMB, up 24.8% y-o-y. The investment in real estate totaled 2,528 bn RMB, up 30.2% y-o-y, of which 1,801 bn RMB in residential buildings, up 32.1%.

l      Total 1,158 km of new railway, 938 km of electrified railway, and 143,595 km of new highway (of which 8,059 km of express) have been put into operation.

 

Domestic Trade

l      The total domestic sales of consumer products in the year totaled 8,921 bn RMB, up 16.8%.

 

Foreign Trade and FDI

l      Import and export totaled 2,173.8 bn USD, up 23.5% y-o-y ; of which, export totaled 1,218 bn USD, up 25.7% y-o-ywhile import was 955.8 bn USD, up 20.8%, with surplus 262.2 bn USD, 84.7 bn USD more than the previous year.

l      The actual absorption of FDI stood at 74.8 bn USD, up 13.6% y-o-y.  The share of FDI in manufacturing sector was 54.7%,  22.9% in the sector of real estate,  5.4% in the sector of leasing and commercial service,  3.6% in the sector of whole and retailed sale, and 2.7% in the sector of transportation, warehouse and post service.  The number of new FDI  enterprises in non-financial sectors was 37,871 in the year, down 8.7%. 

l      Total Chinese FDI abroad in non-financial sectors amounted to 18.7 bn USD in 2007, up 6.2% y-o-y. Total turnover of projects Chinese enterprises completed abroad amounted to 40.6 bn USD, up 35.3%; Total realized turnover of labour cooperation abroad amounted to 6.8 bn USD, up 26.0%.

 

Transportation, Telecommunication and Tourism

l       The gross value-added of transportation, warehouse and post service in the whole year came to 1,364.9 bn RMB, up 9.7% y-o-y.

l      Total 22.53 bn tons of goods were transported in the year. Of which 3.14 bn tons by railway, up 9% y-o-y; 16.28 bn tons by highway, up 11%; 2.73 bn tons by river transportation, up 9.7%; 40.18 bn tons by air transportation, up 15%; 0.38 bn tons by pipe, up 17.9%.

l      Harbours handled 5.21 bn tons of cargoes in the year, up 13.4%, of which 1.78 bn tons for foreign trade, up 12.6% . Total 111.79 mn TEUs containers were handled, up 21.5%. 

l      Total 22.37 bn passengers were transported in the year, up 10.5%. Of which, 1.36 bn by railway, up 8%; 20.58 by highway, up 10.6%; 0.24 bn by river transportation, up 9.6%; 1,857.62 bn by air, up 16.3%.

l      The automobile totaled 56.97 mn at the end of 2007, up 14.3% y-o-y.  Of which private ones came to 35.34 mn, up 20.8%. Cars totaled 15.22 mn, up 26.7%, of which private ones being 15.22 mn, up 32.5%.

l      The total sale of telecommunication amounted to 1,936.1 bn RMB, up 26.4%; The number of fixed phones subscribers totaled 365.45 mn at the year end, of which 248.59 mn in the urban. New 86.23 mn mobile phones subscribers increased, accumulating to 547.29 mn at the year end, with average 69 phones (incl. fixed and mobile)/hundred people.

l      The internet users totaled 210 mn, of which 163 mn via broadband.

l      Total 131.87 million tourists visited China in 2007, up 5.5% y-o-y. Of which 26.11 mn were foreigners, up 17.6%; 105.76 people from H.K, Macao and Taiwan, up 2.9%; The revenue from international tourism amounted to 41.9 bn USD, up 23.5% and from domestic tourism to 777.1 bn RMB, up 24.7%. Outgoing Chinese tourists totaled 1.61 bn, up 15.5%.

 

Finance

l      The balance of Money M2 stood at 40.3 trillion RMB at end of 2007, up 16.7%; The balance of Money M1 at 15.3 trillion RMB, up 21.1%; Money in circulation (M0) at 3 trillion RMB, up 12.2%. Bank deposit incl. RMB and foreign currencies totaled 40.1 trillion RMB, up 15.5%; Bank credit incl. domestic and foreign currencies amounted to 27.8 trillion RMB, up 16.4%.

l      Total annual insurance premium of insurance companies amounted to 564.1 bn RMB, up 25%.

 

Education, Science and Technology

l      Total 420,000 research students were recruited in 2007,  120,000 remained in colleges, and 310,000 graduated. 5.66 mn students were recruited for undergraduate degrees, 18.85 mn remained at universities and colleges, and 4.48 mn graduated. 8 mn students were recruited for secondary vocational education, and 5.3 mn graduated, with 29 mn remained. 8.4 mn students recruited in high schools, and 7.88 mn graduated, with 25.22 mn remained. 18.69 mn students were recruited in middle schools, and 19.64 mn graduated, with 57.36 mn remained. 17.36 mn pupils were recruited in primary schools, and 18.7 mn graduated, with 105.64 mn remained.

l      The annual R&D expenditure stood at 366.4 bn RMB, up 22%,  i.e 1.49% of GDP.

l      China has successfully launched satellite 10 times in the year, one of which is Chang’e No.1 Moon explorer.

l      Total 694,000 patent applications were received in the year, of which 587,000 from domestic, and 352,000 patent rights were granted, of which 302,000 to domestic applicants. Total 245,000 invention patent applications were received, of which 153,000 from domestic and 68,000 invention patent rights were granted, of which 32,000 to domestic applicants.

l      There are 24,700 product inspecting & laboratories at the year end, of which 356 at state level; total 184 organizations/agencyes for certifying of product quality and quality systems; Seismic stations totaled 1,314, and 31 Seismograph stations.

 

Culture, Health and Sports

l      There are 2,791 public libraries, 1,634 museums, 287 TV stations at the end of 2007.  Total 43.9 bn news papers, 2.9 bn periodicals, and 6.6 bn books were published, and total 460 films produced.

l      There are 315,000 medical organizations at the year end, of which 60,000 hospitals, 3,007 women and children health centres, 1,400 hospitals for special diseases, 3,540 disease prevention and controlling centres, and 2,590 sanitation supervision and examining organizations.  Beds at hospitals totaled 3.279 million. Health technicians 4.68 million, of which 2.04 million certified doctors and assistant doctors, 1.47 million registered nurses.

l      Chinese athletes won 123 world champions at 10 items in 2007.

Population and Living Standard

l         National population stands at 1,321.29 million at the year end, 6.81 million more than the end of previous year. Urban and rural population was 593.79 million and 727.50 million respectively. Male and female population was 680.48 million and 640.81 million respectively.  Population at the age 60 and over stood at 153.4 million, 8.1% of the total. New born babies 15.94 million in the year, with the birth rate 12.10%; death persons 9.13 million, with mortality rate 6.93%; and accrual rate 5.17%. The sex ratio is 120.22

l       The  real spendable annual earnings per capita of urban people amounts to 13,786 RMB, up 12.2% y-o-y having taken out of the inflation, and that of rural people being 4,140 RMB, up 9.5%. Food accounts for 36.3% of family expenditure for urban people, 43.1% for the rural. The poverty line was 785 RMB. The poverty population stood at 14.79 million at the year end, 7.09 million less than the previous year.

l         National population who received unemployment benefit stood at 2.86 at the year end.

 

Resource

l       Water resource 2,469 bn cube meters, decreasing 2.5% y-o-y, 1,873 c. m per capita. Total 576 bn. c. m. water used in the year, down 0.6%. 437 c. m. water used per capita.

l       2,650 million tons standard coal of energy were consumed in 2007, up 7.8%. Of which, total coal consumption 2,580 million tons, up 7.9%; crude oil 340 million tons, up 6.3%; natural gas 67,300 million cube meters, up 19.9%; electricity 3,263.2 bn kwh, up 14.1%.
